Obesity and Immunity – is it time to take health more seriously?

There was an interesting article in The Telegraph yesterday about the impact of being overweight or obese on our immunity and ability to recover from viruses such as Coronavirus.

Although polls indicate that good health is what matters most to us in our wellbeing, 60 per cent of us are overweight or obese.

So where is the disconnect?

The New England Journal of Medicine says that ‘food choices are often automatic and made without conscious awareness’

We must consider the responsibility of big business organisations such as Nestle, Kellogg’s, Mars, Coca-Cola and their disinterest in health but instead money. We also need to consider stress and mental wellbeing and the connection to eating – is modern life itself causing us to become sick? Disconnection from nature and ourselves also has a huge impact.

Metabolic syndrome, caused by excess body fat causes increased blood pressure, excess body fat around the waist and raised cholesterol and these diseases impair our immunity.

As a Health Coach, I see first hand the damage weight and poor diet does to us not only physically but also emotionally.

I’m also deeply grateful for my role in helping to guide people out of it.

Health starts with the food we eat as well as a kindness to ourselves in understanding why we make the choices we do and, a desire to feel better.

It’s about making a decision to take action in feeling better and enjoying life with the energy, vitality and confidence which is available to us all through our health.

Health is our wealth and if our body is not well, neither is our mind. Diet is responsible for much depression, autoimmune issues, cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes..the list goes on.

My hope is that this experience is a beginning of us changing our ways and healing at a body, mind and soul level.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful.
